REINHARDT SØBYE (1956)

Reinhardt Søbye is autodidact. He has had numerous solo exhibitions in Japan, including Toho Gallery Tokyo, Odakyo Art Museum, Shimonoseki Citu Art Museum and Kariya Citu Art Museum – as well as in Boxheary Gallery in Pittsburgh, USA. Søbye has been part of many group exhibitions, including Hos Hun Gallery New York, Gallery Steen and the National Gallery in Oslo, Norway, Scandinavian Drawing Triennale and in Trondheim Art Centre. Søbye is, as the only Norwegian contemporary artist, part of both Japanese and Australian Art History curriculum.

“… Søbye, sees quietly and deeply into the void of discrimination, destruction, disguise and human presumption. Once painting in gouache and drawing in pastel, he now processes his artwork by manipulating his paintings, drawings and photography with computer… Søbye’s hope is that there is a God (that Jesus was Christ) and that this life is just a religious play about what it is to be a real Human Being”. -N. Capozzi
